Conrad Siegel- 2018 Internship Experience
On May 21, 2018, Conrad Siegel welcomed three summer interns to our team. Patrick, Katie, and Grant have shown great initiative and a sincere interest in learning. In addition to all of the work they completed, the interns were able to learn about each of the firm’s lines of business, attend the Health and Welfare Forum, participate in staff meetings, enjoy an escape room team building event, and participate in an exam information session. On August 10, 2018 , we will be saying farewell to our interns as they prepare to return to school in the fall. Read below to learn about each intern’s time at Conrad Siegel and their plans for the upcoming school year.
Katie Leftridge
Stevenson University
Katie Leftridge was hesitant to commit to an internship with a long commute from her home in Felton, PA, but both Katie and the team at Conrad Siegel are happy that she made the right decision. Katie is a junior at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, MD where she is pursuing a major in Applied Mathematics on the Actuarial Track with a minor in Economics. Katie has a passion for sports and is a member of the indoor and beach volleyball teams at Stevenson University. Katie stays busy juggling her three jobs on campus as a Statistics Tutor, Athletic Receptionist, and Game Day Staff. As she enters her junior year, Katie is excited to take more of her major classes and begin studying for exams P and FM.
At Conrad Siegel, Katie gained experience through her work with government forms, payouts, Act 205 marketing data collection, VFM files, MMO worksheets, and updating participant addresses. Katie appreciated that the internship provided her with an opportunity to develop skills and gain knowledge that she could not get in the classroom.
Patrick Leininger
Saint Joseph’s University
Patrick Leininger is a senior at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, where he is pursuing a major in Actuarial Science with minors in Mathematics and Business Intelligence & Analytics. When he’s not in class, Patrick continues developing industry knowledge with his involvement in the Actuarial Science Club and as a mentor in the Actuarial Mentor Program. He serves as the Chief Operating Officer of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity he co-founded. We wish Patrick the best as he works toward achieving his goal of passing the IFM exam before graduation in May 2019.
Patrick was kept busy this summer with various tasks that included payouts, government forms, late retirement projections, Act 205 marketing data collection, pension research, benefit reconciliation, and address verification updates. Patrick is grateful that he was able to spend his summer at a company that provided a positive work environment, flexibility, and the opportunity to build relationships with many co-workers.
Grant Leonard
Lebanon Valley College
Grant Leonard was searching for an internship to provide him with meaningful actuarial work when he was referred to Conrad Siegel. Grant is from Thompsontown, PA and is a senior at Lebanon Valley College, pursuing a major in Actuarial Science with a minor in Economics. At LVC he is the captain of the Golf Team and a member of the Math Club. Grant’s goals for his senior year are to have a successful golf season, make Dean’s List, and pass exams IFM and C.
Working in OPEB, Grant gained experience running interim valuations and creating reports. Toward the end of the summer he began working on Act 205 payouts. Grant found Conrad Siegel to be a place filled with helpful people that he could easily approach with questions. He appreciated that the work he was given was meaningful and provided him with challenges that he could learn from.
